Despite revolutionalising tarot imagery, Pamela Colman Smith (1878 – 1951) is only now becoming known.
In this engaging illustrated lecture, Melissa Mercury explores Colman Smith's vibrant artistic life and work. The audience is introduced to her magazine (The Green Sheaf), involvement with women's suffrage and time with the Lyceum Theatre. And, of course, there will be a dive into the symbolic language of her most iconic work: the 78 images from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot. lllustrated by Colman Smith following her occult training in A.E. Waite’s post-Golden Dawn magical order, it went on to become the world's most recognisable tarot deck.
