Alchemy Journal

Astrological Journal
The glossy and dense journal of the Astrological Association of Great Britain.

Chaos International
The grandfather of chaos occult journals is now back after a hiatus, with issue 26. Currently edited by Ian Read, its area of speciality centres on the work of the chaos movement in occultism: names affiliated since its founding have include Phil Hine, Pete Carroll, Andrew Chumbley and others. Occasional back issues available from £20.

Chronicles
A magazine from within the community of the vampire oficionados of Britain. Glossy, colour, fashion, music and articles. £3.50.

Crooked Path Journal
A quarterly magazine for traditional witches, cunningfolk and other practitioners of the Nameless Art. Treadwell's carries both current issues and back issues. Culture and Cosmos
A bi-annual peer-reviewed journal devoted to the study of the history of astrology and cultural astronomy, it is edited by Nicholas Campion and Patrick Curry, PhD. ‘If astrology is the use of celestial phenomena to provide meaning for human life, then cultural astronomy is the broader use of astronomical beliefs and theories to regulate and inform society, politics, the arts and every aspect of human life.' Culture and Cosmos covers the history of astrology to the present.

Dreamflesh
Occasionally appearing, in annual book format, featuring well-written articles of contemporary practitioners including Orryelle Defenestrate Bascule, Stephen Grasso and others at the forefront of magic today.

Fae: Fairies and Enchantment
A fun, bright little glossy magazine of 48 pages, with articles and events notices of fairy events and fashion around the UK. This is one for people who are crazy about fantasy illustration and the more fey end of the scene. Comes out quarterly. £4.00

Goddess Pages
A journal of goddess spirituality, published in Cornwall and covering both ancient goddesses and contemporary goddess worship.

Journal of the Academic Study of Magic (JASM)
A peer-reviewed British journal, appearing annually, with interdisciplinary articles. Most contributors are younger academics, some of whom are also practitioners.

Kindred Spirit
One of the largest-circulation new-age magazines published in the UK, with a positive leaning towards Western shamanism. Staff are also known to be pagan-sympathetic, and articles sometimes cover pagan themes. Bi-monthly. £3.50

Magical Times
Small-format magazine of the brighter, cuter variety, with some more well-known pagan contributors and interviewees: Sheena Morgan, Janet Farrar, and Anna Franklin. £3.25

Small-format magazine of folk tradition and paganism, full of articles and news.

Northern Earth
Small format magazine, long-standing and well-regarded, on earth mysteries, folk belief and forteana. £1.95

One Eye Grey
A magazine-cum-journal with a cult following, the subject of which is weird and fictional London. Try it, you will never miss another issue. Its subtitle is 'a penny dreadful for the 21st century.' Ah, yes. We sell back issues.

Pagan Dawn

The long-running magazine of the Pagan Federation, with articles, art and events listings.

Quest
Small-format, black and white journal going since the 1970s, edited by Marian Green. Aimed at the solitary witch, and full of nature folk articles.

Starfire
Large-format journal of typhonian thelema, an officionado's collectible. Serious and technical articles relating to Spare, Grant, Crowley and related luminaries of magic. Edited by Michael Staley. Appears periodically, with back issues occasionally available.

Strange Attractor
An award-winning creation, a book-journal of some of the best contemporary writing on every imaginable aspect of unpopular culture, oddities of history, eccentric magic, and fortean belief. Edited by Mark Pilkingon. Vols 2 and 3 available.

The Oracle
A serious occultist's journal, appearing quarterly from a small but intense group of practitioners and occult theoreticians. Now on issue 4, its format bears a resemblance to that of Chaos International , and the intellectual standard is also high. It focuses on chaos current work, Spare-inspired witchcraft, and post-Grant magical themes. Edited by David Blank , and sometimes featuring contributions from, inter alia, ‘Pharaon' (author of the much-touted Liber Niger Legionis , published 2005). £5.00 per copy as the back issues are now collectable.

Aries: Journal for the Study of Western Esotericism
Aries appears twice yearly from Brill, and is edited by the Chair of Hermetic Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam . Articles cover esoteric currents in modern and contemporary western culture, those on earlier periods (antiquity, middle ages) link the past to modern practice. Aries covers the revival of Hermetism and early modern "occult philosophy", as well as later developments such as alchemy, Paracelsianism, Rosicrucianism, Christian Kabbalah, and theosophy. It concentrates on historical rather than sociological research, but often publishes articles taking an interdisciplinary approach. Each volume is about 300 pages.
