About The Event
The battle of the Holly King and the Oak King is the story of the eternal clash between winter and summer, darkness and light, death and rebirth.
In this creative writing workshop, Bernadette Russell invites students to draw inspiration from this and other mythic battles, in order to compose their own tales. The group explores several legendary conflicts, including that of Lugh and Balor, Balan and Baylor, and Gawain and the Green Knight. Bernadette also discusses the traditions and folklore of the Winter Solstice, with a focus on the poetic significance of the year's cycling seasons. Afterwards, participants are invited to create their own pieces using prompts, free writing and timed exercises. Note: there will be no sharing of work, so attendees are free to explore and experiment with their ideas safely.
Ideal for anyone interested in the power of words, this workshop is equally suitable for experienced and new…
