New edition of the classic text of chaos magic by Peter Carroll, with a foreword by Ronald Hutton.
This classic fundamental text of chaos magic is actually two complete books republished in a single volume. Liber Null (1978) and Psychonaut (1982) together form a core basic guide to chaos magic: Liber Null contains a selection of rituals and exercises for committed chaos magicians, while Psychonaut is a manual for group working or for workings in a community. Drawing on shamanistic principles and informed not only by the work of occultists such as Aleister Crowley but also scientific developments including quantum physics and chaos theory, Carroll's work has profoundly influenced the trajectory of Western occultism in the twentieth century and continues to be important today: along with Ray Sherwin, Carroll is widely considered to be the originator of chaos magic as an independent strand of occult exploration.
The Weiser Classics series is an initiative by Red Wheel / Weiser to refresh and republish the most important modern works of Western occultism in new editions, re-set with new covers and forewords. Ronald Hutton provides a new foreword for Liber Null and Psychonaut, highlighting the role of Peter Carroll as a modern theorist of Western magic following Eliphas Levi and Aleister Crowley.
