This slender volume reveals the way in which tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons has provided a safe haven and means of escape for queer players since its creation.

The book is divided into three parts beginning with ‘Here be dragons - and queers,’ which explores the history of the game itself and its inherent queerness. The second part, ‘Queer play, exploration, joy and creativity,’ discusses the ways in which players have adapted the game over time to exemplify its cacacity to meet the wants and needs of queer players. The final part of this book, ‘Queer D&D’s past, present, and future,’ discusses some of the ongoing problems facing the development of the game as a haven for queer people, and some ways in which the community has begun tackling these issues. This is a fascinating read for anyone interested in roleplaying, magic, and community building.
