Boyer’s trilogy of magical plant books comes to a close with this exhaustively researched collection of twenty plants from the Witch’s Garden.

Similar to the format of the previous two books in this trilogy, Under the Witching Tree and Under the Bramble Arch, this book presents the plants covered in four parts following the four seasons. However, Under the Dragon Root is longer than the previous two books, containing meticulous footnotes and the author’s wisdom and personal recipes at the end of each chapter. Source material for this book is taken from a multitude of places including the history of pharmacy, the grimoire tradition, traditional witchcraft, and much more. This book gives particular attention to poisonous plants commonly associated with magic and witches: hellebore, lilly of the valley, vervain, and foxglove to name a few. The appendices provided at the end of the book provide practical instructions to assist readers in deepening their practice when using these plants, and in herb magic more generally.
